Designed in Europe, Gracefully Handcrafted in the UAE
During the Baroque period, that started in Italy in the 16th century, dark coloured and intricate patterns, irregularly shaped were a fashion trend, used as a statement to an extravagant lifestyle. Starting in the Late Baroque or Rococo as commonly named, monkeys were represented in the decorative paintings defining the art movement: the Singerie. Beginning with the French painter and designer Jean Berain, these playful animals were shown in various activities, fashionably dressed and acting as humans. This style was almost abandoned in the 19th century, but monkeys still play an important role - when it comes to irony and caricature - in the art today.
